Intercoil Bifilar Winding technique is very effective in reducing a leakage energy stored in between the windings of a parallel magnetic component. There is, however a significant amount of energy still trapped in those portions of the windings which do not have a directly adjacent portion of another winding. To reduce this component of the stray field a dummy shorted turn called Perimeter Band is introduced. Stray fields induce mirror image currents in the Perimeter Band with a magnetic field of very similar amplitude and opposite phase to the stray field of the working coils. These fields mutually cancel resulting in a several fold reduction of the effective leakage inductance. At the same time the high frequency flux density in the core is also reduced giving us a great reduction of the losses. This reduction of the net radiated energy diminishes potential noise and EMC problems. The accuracy of the output voltage pattern is improved.
